Visitors to historic Fort Reno enjoyed glimpses of the past during the 2021 Annual Bivouac and National Cavalry Competition held last week on the fort's parade grounds.

Hosted by the U.S. Cavalry Association, men and women and their horses from across the U.S. participated in competitions, such as Wheeled Horse, Team Competition, Combat Horsemanship, Mounted Saber Competition, Military Field Jumping and Mounted Pistol Competition. The majority of the competitors were active-duty military or had served in the military.

All were dressed in period, military uniforms, and most uniforms hearkened back to Fort Reno's glory days during the 19th century.

Visitors included residents from across the U.S., as well as from Yukon and throughout Canadian County. As a fundraiser, BlueSTEM AgriLearning Center staff prepared and served lunch during the week. BlueSTEM is located in a historic building on the Fort Reno grounds.

Founded in 1976, the USCA preserves the U.S. Cavalry's traditions through education, publications, movies and traditional cavalry events and competitions.

The group also assists modern cavalry units.

A nonprofit located at 7107 W Cheyenne Street on the Fort Reno grounds, the association is home to a museum and library. The museum and library are closed to visitors, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fort is located at 3220 N Jesse Reno Street in El Reno.
